RSW & RSW-K

ROMAG CSO deflection screens prevent debris from being swept into receiving waters during storm events. These innovative bar screens keep the stormwater debris in the wastewater channel where it continues on to the treatment plant for removal and disposal. This creates more capacity in holding tanks and prevents accidental discharge into lakes, rivers or streams.

ROMAG introduced the first screen specifically designed for CSO management, the RSW bar screen, over 25 years ago. Combined sewer and stormwater channels present ever increasing contamination problems. The RSW design has been improved and refined to meet the challenges of larger flows and increased frequency in today’s environment.

RSW Design

This screen is composed of horizontal bar modules that provide for a custom fit to channel height and flow velocity. A fixed weir is at the mid - point of the screen to control velocity and activate the overflow. The screen acts as a barrier between the CSO channel and the overflow sewer. Solids are retained by the screen while excess flow passes through. The upper edge of the screen functions as an emergency spillway.

A cleaning carriage is operated by a hydraulic cylinder. The carriage is made up of triangular combs that move through and between the screen bars. As the force of the water forces debris onto the screen bars, the cleaning combs move the captures material forward toward discharge.

RSW-K Design

The basic design of the RSW-K is identical to the RSW except that it has a movable weir gate. The movable weir is only activated when the water level in the chamber threatens to overflow the screen. At that point, the weir gate begins to open to release enough flow to maintain a consistent water level and prevent contaminates from entering the discharge flow.
